Leading IT while AI rewrites the rules.
I'm René Hoyer. I've been writing software since I was twelve, and honestly the subject never let me go again. That early curiosity turned into an entire career: my first own IT company in 2001, full-time from 2006, and more than two decades in the agile transformation of large IT organizations ever since. I've led both traditional and agile programs with more than a hundred developers — in the automotive industry, in insurance, in eCommerce and in logistics. What gripped me more and more, beyond the technology itself, was one question: how do you keep an IT organization steerable and able to deliver when the playing field keeps shifting?
That's exactly where I stand today. AI is rewriting how software is built, and most teams feel more productive while, quietly in the background, something can start to tip: quality, architecture, oversight. My work is about giving IT leaders an operating model that lets them stay in control through the upheaval, instead of just chasing the next tool. My guiding principle: leading IT while AI rewrites the rules.
That experience is also where my book came from, the Hepta Management System. It distills what I have learned in transformations over the years into an understandable system of order — from first setting up an initiative to putting it back on its feet when it gets stuck. The through-line is the arc from Lean-Agile to what leadership really needs under AI conditions.
With my company OCENOX I then put this into practice: sparring, reviews, workshops and real project work with IT teams — vendor-independent and with no commission interests.
On a personal note, in 2024 life took me to the other end of the world. I live in Auckland, New Zealand, work remotely and support clients across the German- and English-speaking world from here. The time difference occasionally means early meetings, but the view of the sea makes up for it.
